Gassificatore KME: un progetto dalle fondamenta di argilla
Il management KME ci ha abituato a colpi di scena teatrali. Quelli usciti nel pomeriggio di sabato scorso – giorno dell’incontro fra la dirigenza KME e gli operai – riguardano il passaggio da inceneritore per pirogassificazione ad uno per gassificazione e l’annuncio che il progetto sarà presentato entro il 31 agosto. Finalmente quest’estate conosceremo nel dettaglio l’erede dell’avveneristico megaprogetto agricolo idroponico !
Quanto esposto sabato ai lavoratori è un progetto dalle fondamenta di argilla. Chiediamo ai dirigenti KME di indicarci un solo impianto operativo al mondo, di scala industriale, che impieghi come combustibile una miscela plastica-biomassa per co-gassificazione. A noi risulta che un impianto simile non esista. Se così fosse, quello che sognano di realizzare sarebbe un prototipo sperimentale da realizzare in un centro abitato (sic!).
Un’altra cosa da dire con chiarezza è che un progetto del genere trasformerebbe la KME in uno smaltitore per incenerimento di rifiuti speciali e che dunque l’azienda dovrebbe iscriversi all’albo dei gestori di rifiuti e conseguire le relative autorizzazioni. Ma sta di fatto che oggi in Italia non esiste un solo esempio di azienda che incenerisce i rifiuti altrui per prodursi energia. Gli unici
autorizzati a farlo sono i cementifici (ma quello dei cementifici, tecnologicamente, è un caso praticamente unico, in cui si coniugano alte temperature con ambiente fortemente basico).
Noi riteniamo che un progetto del genere abbia una probabilità praticamente nulla di essere autorizzato. E allora – ci chiediamo – perché si insiste così tanto in questa direzione?
KME gasifier: impractical and unconvincing.
By now we should be used to KME’s management’s incoherence on the subject of safety and regulations surrounding the gasifier. But last Saturday afternoon – the day of the meeting between the KME management and the workers KME reached new heights. In just one meeting we were announced the latest decisions being made: the transition from incinerator by pyro-gasification to using only gasification and were also informed that the project will be presented by 31 August.
What was said Saturday to the workers is a project with no foundations. We ask KME executives to point us to only one existing industrial-scale operating plant in the world that uses a plastic-biomass mixture for co-gasification for fuel. We believe that a similar plant does not exist. If this is the case, what they intend to build is an experimental prototype, at all costs NOT to be built in the centre of town (sic!).
Another thing to say with clarity is that such a project would transform the KME into a special waste incinerator and that therefore the company should take part of the register of waste managers and obtain the relevant authorizations. But the fact is that today in Italy there is not a single example of a company that incinerates the waste of others to produce energy. The only ones
authorized to do so are cement factories (but that of cement factories, technologically, is a practically unique case, in which high temperatures are combined with extreme alkaline environments).
We believe that such a project has a practically zero probability of being authorized. So – we ask ourselves and KME – why do you insist so much on taking the KME in this direction?
